2014 Fall MakeupTrends

As we move out of the Summer heat and into the cool, breezy fall season everything that we are used to seeing as we step out the door is about to change.  The leaves will start to change to bright, warm, golden colors before falling to the ground and leaving everything bare.  And just for a moment before winter sets in everything will be a warm, rich, golden hue.

So in researching many of the upcoming Fall trends for 2014 I wasn’t surprised to see many of the same things that come to mind when I think of this transitional season. Metallic touches and bright vibrant colors are trending big for Fall.  So if you are feeling like trying something new with your makeup don’t be afraid to push the limits and go a bit outside of your comfort zone.

If your are a little more timid start with a gold scarf or some silver nail polish and work up to applying some fun glittery eye makeup.  Or maybe start with a peachy lip and work your way up to a bolder color.  Whatever you do, make sure that you choose colors that compliment your eye color and skin tone.  Reference a color wheel if needed, to see which color is complimentary, or opposite your eye color on the wheel.

Towards the end of Fall the trees become more bare and their branches become more defined.  This may possibly be the inspiration for some other Fall trends that we will see more of.  There is room for both glowing, fresh, bare skin and defined eyes within the autumn months.  To get a flawless, glowing complexion start with some fresh clean skin and a moisturizer with an SPF.  This will moisturize your skin while protecting it from the harmful rays of the sun.  Even though it may not be warm and sunny in the Fall like it is in the Summer, the sun’s rays are still strong enough to harm your skin for years to come.   So remember to protect your skin during all seasons.  Using a moisturizer with a built in SPF will take the worry out of forgetting to apply a sunscreen on a day-to-day basis.

If you do have imperfections on your skin and feel the need to apply a foundation as well, Glo-Minerals is a great choice because the minerals and anti-oxidants used to create the makeup are not only good at covering up any imperfections you may have, but will also protect your skin and help correct your imperfections.  Glo-Minerals also has built-in UV protection as well so you can feel good about using it every day.

If you are like me then you always have to add something more to that bare skin before taking on your day, even if it is just a bit of mascara.  Of course if I had long luscious lashes then I wouldn’t have to do that either, and I am all about simplifying my morning routine as much as possible.  So an alternative would be to get XTreme lash extensions put onto your natural lashes.  XTreme Lash Extensions help your lashes look thicker and longer without looking fake. For more information on XTreme Lash Extensions visit http://www.ruthieseyes.com/xtreme-lashes.html or call Ruthie's Eyes Studio (610-724-3808).  Long luscious lashes is coincidentally just one more Fall Trend for 2014.

When you hear defined eyes the first words that may come to mind are dark or smoky, but defined just means clean or outlined.  You can use really any color that you feel compliments your eyes to outline your top and bottom lids.  A dark, liquid liner can be used for a more dramatic look,

while a light powder applied with small smudge or liner brush can be used for softer definition.

So with fall here, start to look outside and use what is around you to help  inspire a change in your day-to-day look.  Whatever you decide to try don’t be afraid to get a little risqué, as it can all simply be wiped away!   And most importantly have fun!!

Travel essentials

As I get ready to pack up the family and go to Chicago for a few days, I'm trying my best to keep things light for myself. Between packing all the clothes/stroller/car seats (yes, I have to check two giant car seats), there is little room left for me and my daily essentials. I try to keep most of my makeup and toiletries in my carry-on, so I came up with just a few of the beauty items I'll be bringing to keep things simple but still feel like I have everything I need to get through a week away from home.

1.  GloMinerals Pressed base powder with makeup brush - has an SPF 18 which is also one less thing for me to pack

2. Oil blotters- a no brainer for walking around a city all day in August

3. A jewelry fragrance? These Lisa Hoffman bracelets are perfumed. Not sold on this yet but it sounds interesting!

4. Face cleansing wipes.  Cetaphil makes great individually packaged cleansing cloths now which is perfect for makeup remover and a gentle wash at the end of the day.

5. GloTherapeutics dry shampoo - being able to get away with one extra day without a hair wash is perfect when you're getting ready in a hotel room and just want to get your sightseeing started!

6. A product that can be used as a multipurpose lip and cheek color like Glo minerals creme blush in Fig is always a fun trick when you're on the go :)

7. My "cool as a cucumber" hand sanitizer from Bath and Body Works is so tiny and smells so much better than the typical hand sanitizer. It's great for those post-flight germs, no one wants to get sick on vacation!

Let me know if you have any travel tips for me, especially suggestions for things to do while we're in Chicago :)

A Summer Farm Share

This year, I decided to sign up for a summer farm share.  We did one two years ago through a farm near my husbands work and I absolutely loved it, so I decided to do my research and find out which one locally would suit us best this year.  I came across two in my area that caught my eye, Elwyn Farm and The Red Hill Farm.  I decided overall on the Red Hill Farm in Aston because of the partial share option and the children's garden that they have every summer.

Red Hill Farm is owned by the Sisters of St Francis in Philadelphia and allows 120 members to join the share each year.  You can read more about the farm and who it benefits here:

Every Tuesday, we will go to the farm and pick up our share.  This was this week's portion:

In addition, they have a "You Pick" area with herbs, beans, peas, cherry tomatoes, and flowers for their members.  The children's garden is a cute space with different tasks like weeding and watering for the kids to do each week if they choose, and educational sessions where they can learn more about gardening.

You have to be pretty adventurous with your vegetables if you aren't used to cooking with certain kinds like rhubarb, beets, and collard greens.  But the farm offers recipe suggestions, and I just throw mine in a smoothie with lots of fruit if it's something I really can't get used to.  Other than the occasional type you may not be used to, its your typical summertime fruits and veggies like strawberries, cucumber, lettuce, and potatoes.  And aside from the obvious health benefits of eating lots of fruits and veggies this summer, your skin will thank you as well!  Many of these have a ton of vitamin C (among many others) in them, which naturally protects your skin from the damaging UV rays of the sun.

Wedding Morning

On the heels of a fantastic weekend spent in New Jersey, both getting a bridal party ready for a wedding, and then attending a sea side wedding myself, I thought I would highlight the importance of the wedding morning.
Ruthie and I are with bridal parties the morning of the wedding all of the time, and I think it is such an important part of the day because it really sets the tone for the remainder of the day.  I have such great memories of getting ready in my bridal suite the morning of my wedding, getting hair and makeup done, having coffee with my friends, playing with my niece, and listening to great music.
Whether you’re at home getting ready, at the reception site or hotel, it doesn’t matter.  The wedding morning can be such a fun time and a nice distracter if you’re feeling those pre-wedding nerves!  .
Here are some fun tips for starting off your wedding day:

And finally, a wedding-themed playlist for the morning of, as suggested by Brides.com:
